Smoothing out stuff
The ugly black squares are gone! Caves are now actually dark as well. In the cave our hero is holding some candles, which could be dropped in a Brothers Grimm fashion for safer spelunking. Lighting is now smooth which doesn't really do much for gameplay but makes everything look a bit more professional. On the topic of smoothness, stuff now fades in/out of view rather than popping in/out - you can see this demonstrated in the youtube video.
Also, if you didn't see it in a video, there's a new world map view. I'm quite happy with the color theme - if you can guess where I stole it from I'd be very impressed; it's from a quite obscure game.
Not much else to report, pictures and video are pretty self-explanatory. Probably next I should work on making the creatures around the world actually dangerous, maybe then we can start getting some actual gameplay.
